2018 W10 of 52 – Bryn’s Body Progress Journal

This week

So this week has been turned a little upside down due to an unexpected family bereavement, so sticking to my training and nutrition has been lower down on the priority list for me. It wasn’t an excuse for me to sit around and gorge on junk food but just it meant I needed to be more flexible. So I’ve had another week on lower calories; around 2000 – 2500kcal as eating more takes more time and preparation which I’ve not had. Also my training has not completely gone to pot, but I have only had 2 sessions this week which would normally be more like 4-6.

It’s not the end of the world when this happens, and it’s life – we all get unexpected news that knocks us down. It’s what you do most of the time that matters not some of the time. If you’re consistent throughout most of the year with your training and nutrition, then having a week off here and there won’t set you back all that much when it comes to your health and fitness related goals.

Personal Battles

Recently I have been having a battle with what’s more important to me, aesthetic appearance or performance goals and actually this is something I’ve struggled with over the years with my training. When choosing a programme or designing one for yourself, it’s important that the training is in line with your goals. My goal has not changed as I still want to become more athletic and build and stronger leaner physique, but I need to find a good balance and make sure I don’t become a jack of all trades and a master of none.

My plan to do 2 CrossFit sessions a week with 3 strength/bodybuilding session a week is still the aim, but it’s more the internal battle in my head that I need to control because I have this desire to want an amazing physique, but my competitive nature wants me to be good at CrossFit and reach my full performance potential. These two are both equally important goals for me, so it’s a bit of a push pull situation going on in my head. I want to commit to one goal only and work towards that, but I know I will always want to do the other at the same time.

For me it’s mostly coming to terms with the fact that I need a hybrid approach, and that’s the way I most enjoy training. That’s what will give me the best results. I need to realise that I’m not just becoming a jack of all trades, but instead I’m finding a balance that works for me. And let’s be real, I’m not going to be a top level athlete nor am I a model so I don’t need to be extremely good at one or the other, I just need to enjoy what I do and work towards becoming a bigger, leaner and stronger version of myself.

NEXT WEEK

Next week I will be eating more calories and getting back into training as normal as long as no curve balls are thrown my way! I will keep you updated on both my performance and aesthetic achievements and let you know how doing both works for me.
