What Are Fat Gripz?
Fat Gripz are rubber handles that you can wrap around barbells, dumbbells, cable attachments and exercise machine handles to open your grip by increasing their diameter. This will help you to develop your grip strength and develop bigger arms. By increasing the grip this causes you to recruit more motor units (muscle fibres) especially in the elbow flexors (biceps and brachialis).
So why do I recommend Fat Gripz?
Firstly, I just want to start by saying that we are not affiliated with or endorsed by Fat Gripz. This is a genuine recommendation as I personally use Fat Gripz as a training tool and I have found them to be beneficial when added to my own training, especially for developing my grip strength. They are an inexpensive bit of kit that’s small and compact enough to keep in your gym bag, so they can travel around with you. You are looking at around £26 for a pair of the standard size Fat Gripz.
They are also a great way to mix up your current training programme, it keeps things interesting by adding and extra challenge to some of your lifts. Fat Gripz also claim that science now shows that a thicker grip leads to increased arm strength and size.
‘Science has now confirmed what athletes and bodybuilders have known for decades: a thicker diameter bar causes greater muscle activation in arms which leads to incredible muscle size and strength gains.’ – Fat Gripz
Personally, I like to add the Fat Gripz to my bench press, deadlift, pull ups and bicep curls mostly to improve my grip strength; remember, you are only as strong as your weakest link.
